First draft: missing. Although based partly on a sketch written in 1916, this draft stage probably dates from February 1921 (see Selected Letters 28 February 1921).

NLI MS 36,639/13 (NLI.13):
School exercise book (French) with light green paper covers. [36] leaves, 22 x 17 cm. Text on rectos, additions on versos. “ITHACA” is handwritten on a label attached to the front cover. Joyce used only about half of the notebook. The text (most, if not all, appears to be first draft) consists of a series of text blocks (questions and answers) with interlineated and marginal additions. The text blocks were subsequently rearranged and revised.
